Rogan Smith is an award-winning and award-nominated writer, TV and radio talk show host, columnist and blogger based in Washington, D.C. She is originally from The Bahamas.
She joined The Bahamas’ #1 newspaper, The Punch as a columnist in January 2018. Her biweekly column, This Thing Go With Sense, comments on politics, the economy, culture, social trends and urban affairs. Her column highlights the zeitgeist of life in The Bahamas and also shines a humorous spotlight on the Bahamian way of life. In February 2020, Smith won the P. Anthony White Columnist of the Year award.
She is also the former co-host of the Ed Fields Live radio talk show, which airs on Kiss 96.1 FM twice a week. She is regarded for her no-holds-barred style of interviewing. She has interviewed newsmakers from all strata of society. She also frequently delves into social issues, interviewing two ex-inmates, who detailed life behind bars. The show fuses entertainment with education.
Smith has also hosted her own talk show, On Point, and been a guest on many media panels and roundtables. She is the former co-host of Bahamas at Sunrise, a top-rated morning TV show, has hosted The Financial Voice and You & Your Money.
She is the founder and creative director of the multi-award-nominated lifestyle blog, This Bahamian Gyal.
Smith first gained attention as a news writer at The Bahamas’ #1 newspaper, The Tribune, covering Parliament and high-profile court cases. Smith also worked as a stringer for the award-winning Associated Press (AP). Her articles have been featured in the New York Times, USA Today and the Sun-Sentinel to name a few.
Smith soon developed a curiosity for radio news and moved to Love 97FM. She quickly rose through the ranks, eventually landing a spot as a daily news anchor. While at Love 97FM, she created a quirky five-minute segment known as The Rogue Report, where she highlighted people doing odd jobs and off-the-beaten-path stories.
Smith was one of the first anchors for Star 106.5FM, anchoring the morning drive time news. She also served as a senior writer for The Nassau Guardian.
Years later, she returned to Love 97FM, where she served as an editor. After more than five years, she moved to Bahamas @ Sunrise, a highly-rated breakfast television show that marries hard news with feature stories. Smith has also hosted The Financial Voice and You & Your Money programs.
Her personality, no-holds-barred style of interviewing and professionalism has landed her on numerous journalism panels and roundtables.
She has interviewed many celebrities and politicians, including Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb, R. Kelly, Colin Powell and many others.
Smith has emceed many events, including the Cancer Survivor: Wedding In Paradise TV program. She is the former PR and Marketing Chairperson for the award-winning Marathon Bahamas and the Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure.
As a marketing and public relations executive, she promoted the award-winning Marathon Bahamas and organized the Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure’s signature event, the Survivors Ceremony.
Smith is passionate about fighting cancer. In 2015, she ran her first half marathon with Bahamas Half and started a fundraiser to raise money for the Cancer Society’s Freedom Kids, a support group for children battling leukemia and sickle cell.
Smith is a graduate of Georgia State University. She holds a BA in Journalism and is certified in Marketing Strategy from Cornell University.
